A lot of professionals would love to work from home because traveling from home to office takes up too many hours. But working from home is not suitable for everyone. While you may dream of working in your PJs, it is hard to be productive when you are sitting in your bed HQ.
We will tell you why in a minute.
Distractions: One of the biggest disadvantages of working from home is the constant distraction from family members and/or pets. If you have folks who stay at home, they would want to talk to you occasionally. Your pets feel they need more attention, especially when all your focus is on your laptop. Every few minutes, you will face a distraction and in the absence of colleagues and boss, it is hard to get back to work right after facing an interruption.
Learn to manage your distractions and you can be productive, even when working from home.
Discipline: Admit it, a nap after lunch sounds heavenly, especially if you can sleep in your own bed. And how about some snacks while you are working? When you are working in an office, you follow a predictable schedule of breaks and entertainment. But what do you do when your kitty comes up for a snuggle right when you are in the middle of an intense analysis? If you are like most people, you may end up cuddling your cat for a few minutes.
If you want to maintain consistent productivity when working from home, develop a strict disciple in terms of work hours and breaks. Do not slack off at the smallest interruption and do not give in to the temptation of food, naps or pets. This way, you can accomplish more in a shorter time, even if you are in your PJs.
